Trip to Brands Hatch to watch the Sevens racing

Went for a nosy to see the Caterhams at Brands. Brands is very local for me, so it seemed rude not to, especially as Jon Bryant (aka @Snappy_Jon) had kindly arranged a paddock pass.c21d1d48f01cbaf896e920c51dbf69fb-medium

The weather was not kind, and the drivers who had all qualified in the dry (and some with fairly well buffed road tyres) faced a circuit which changes significantly with precipitation.

Paddock Hill bend is, of course, the highlight of the circuit for many, but from experience it’s Clearways which is tricky – funny camber and going light over the crest as you tiptoe though mid corner into Clarke is, IMHO, the hardest part to get right and fast in changeable conditions.

Still, the races were pretty civilised and although there were a few incidents, there was no real carnage.

Possibly one of the most impressive features was the facilities laid on by Caterham. Food, drinks, warmth and comfort laid on for not only drivers but also friends and families – makes the potentially hard sell to nearest and dearest a little more palatable whilst Daddy goes off playing cars.

Caterham lay on a similar arrangement for the technical aspects as well, with a truck load of spares and Caterham mechanics to keep the drivers going.

Impressed and excited!
